On election night, November 4th, 2008, the Bush administration detainees at Guantánamo Bay chanted the name “Obama” in solidarity with the Obama Campaign and his supporters in the United States. Along with most Americans, they too hate President George Bush. Candidate Barack Obama had promised to release all of the enemy combatants from prison and bring them to the United States to stand trial and be released. (Michelle Malkin)
Candidate Barack Obama promised his supporters that, when elected, he would release all Guantánamo detainees: “I have said repeatedly that I intend to close Guantánamo, and I will follow through on that. I’ve said repeatedly that America doesn’t torture and I’m going to make sure that we don’t torture. Those are part and parcel of an effort to regain America’s moral stature in the world.”
